A poem by Ted Stourton.
The Velvet Sky.
When evening spreads the velvet sky
And red clouds drift and wander by,
The swallows dip, the hedgerows sigh,
And gentle breezes murmur why:
“Good luck will walk with you tonight,
For sunset’s glow is warm and bright.”
The fields go calm, the day grows slow,
Soft amber sea’s start to glow.
The fading light begins to show
A promise only dusk can know.
For if skies are red at the close of the day,
Then worries quietly drift away.
So, keep that scarlet sky in sight,
Somehow a lantern through the falling night.
For fortune hums in twilight air,
A quiet luck seems to linger there.
Best wishes from Ted,
.
